- This report was received from Health Canada’s Drug Analysis Service Laboratory regarding a recent sample that was seized by law enforcement in Hants County, Nova Scotia and was tested (verified) at the national Drug Analysis Service laboratory. The report indicated the first detection of a substance of concern – i.e., the first time this drug has been detected in Nova Scotia’s unregulated drug supply.

- Moncton, N.B. - Medtomidine - June 9
- This is an update related to the ongoing escalated harms we have been reporting in Cumberland County over the past weeks. We have received confirmatory testing regarding samples from Moncton, New Brunswick, which is experiencing similar toxicity harms. This report was received from Health Canada’s Drug Analysis Service Laboratory. The report contains several samples, summarized below. All samples contained medetomidine, a potent, non-opioid veterinary tranquilizer/sedative. With the increasing toxicity of the drug supply, always expect drugs will contain unexpected contaminants, particularly, potent opioids, medetomidine, and/or benzodiazepines.
